How can I track the wearer?

We carefully select our Products and Services to give you as wide a choice as possible.

Mobile Phone Tracking

This is a low cost option using a Pay As You Go SIM card, the only ongoing cost being keeping the SIM in credit.

Each request would only cost you a standard text charge. (depending on network tariff)

This method involves requesting the location of the device to be sent via SMS (text) message. This is done by simply calling the device, it will then respond with an SMS containing detailed GPS co ordinates and a map link.

The map link can be opened in most Smart Phone's to display the location of the device on a detailed map, see example below.

We can send you an example of the type of message you would receive, email us enquiries@pinpoint-online.co.uk.

If you do not have a Smart phone, you can enter the co-ordinates into a free mapping program, such as Google Maps. More Info

How do they work?

Our GPS tracking devices use the Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the precise location of the person to which it is attached. This information can then be transmitted to a mobile phone or internet-connected computer, using the mobile phone (GPRS) network. This allows the wearer's location to be displayed on a detailed map in real-time.

These devices are known as data pushers, as it pushes (sends) the position of the device, at regular intervals, to a determined server, which can instantly analyse the data.

At regular intervals, the device transmits the data from the GPS receiver either via SMS or GPRS, typically containing the following information:

  • GPS co-ordinates
  • Time
  • Date
  • Speed

The location data is then received as SMS by mobile phone or sent to dedicated tracking software and displayed on a detailed map via our website accessed over the internet, allowing you to access this information from any internet enabled PC.

This makes our products an ideal choice for those with conditions which cause them to wander, such as Alzheimer's, to allow children freedom whilst reducing parent's anxiety or as additional security for lone workers, reducing their risk of harm. In all cases, the safety and security of the wearer is improved as their position can be quickly obtained when needed.

At Pin Point we are not tied to any particular product, enabling us to continually update our range and bring you the best products available.

GPS Restrictions

GPS signals are incapable of penetrating solid objects that are non-transparent. The signal will also be affected by surface cover such as tall buildings, tunnels, elevated expressways, forests etc., or weather conditions such as overcast and rain.

All wireless communication devices such as cell phones, or traffic police speed detectors can occasionally interfere with the reception of GPS signals and results in unstable signals.

To get position fix successfully, please hold the device up for better signal orientation.

There is no guarantee that SOS message will be successfully sent at distressed environment where GPS or GSM signals are weak.
